I’ve had an air fryer for what feels like forever, but for a long time I mostly used it for making fresh fries or heating up bread rolls. But honestly, an air fryer is way too useful to be limited to that! After someone recently asked me what I actually make in it, I decided it was time to try a few more recipes.

These BBQ chicken bites in the air fryer were a success right from the first try. The small pieces of chicken fillet are juicy on the inside and coated with a deliciously sweet and savory BBQ sauce. They make a great appetizer, party snack, or easy finger food for a casual dinner with friends.

How to Make BBQ Chicken in the Air Fryer

You only need a few ingredients for this BBQ chicken air fryer recipe. In fact, it’s just three ingredients if you use store-bought BBQ sauce. Of course, you can also make your own sauce if you prefer to adjust the flavor to your liking.

One of the things I love about making chicken in the air fryer is how quickly it comes together. There’s no need to preheat the entire oven, especially when you’re only making a small portion.

Can You Make BBQ Chicken in the Oven?

Don’t have an air fryer? No problem! You can easily prepare these BBQ chicken bites in the oven, too.

Preheat your oven to 210°C / 410°F fan and allow roughly twice the cooking time compared with the air fryer. The chicken will still be delicious, but for smaller portions I definitely prefer using the air fryer because it’s faster and more convenient.

What BBQ Sauce Goes Best with Chicken?

The BBQ sauce is an important part of this recipe, and you can use your favorite store-bought sauce or make your own. A classic BBQ sauce is usually made with ingredients such as tomato paste or ketchup, vinegar, sugar, paprika, garlic, and mustard. Some recipes also include fruit juice, such as orange or pineapple juice, for a sweeter and more fruity flavor.

The smoky, sweet, and savory BBQ sauce pairs especially well with the chicken and bacon. Together, they make these little chicken bites incredibly flavorful.

Why I Love Cooking with an Air Fryer

For me, one of the biggest advantages of an air fryer is simply how much time it saves. If I only want to prepare a small portion, I don’t have to wait for the entire oven to heat up.

Bread rolls, for example, can be ready in just a few minutes and come out wonderfully crisp on the outside. And recipes like these BBQ chicken bites are another great example of why I use my air fryer much more often now.

If you’re currently deciding between an air fryer and a small countertop oven, I would personally choose the air fryer. It’s quick, convenient, and perfect for preparing smaller portions.

What to Serve with BBQ Chicken Bites

BBQ chicken and fries are a classic combination for a reason. You can easily make a fresh batch of air fryer fries to serve alongside the chicken.

The BBQ chicken also works great as part of a snack platter with dips, vegetables, or other crispy appetizers. It’s a simple recipe that can easily be adapted depending on the occasion.

Can You Use a Different Sauce?

Absolutely! If BBQ sauce isn’t your favorite, you can use almost any sauce or marinade you like instead. Try a spicy sauce, honey mustard, teriyaki sauce, or something with a little extra heat.

The chicken itself is very versatile, so you can easily change the flavor depending on what you have in your kitchen.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy air fryer chicken recipe, these BBQ chicken bites are definitely worth trying. They’re simple to prepare, packed with flavor, and perfect as an appetizer, snack, or easy weeknight meal.
