Amarena cherry ice cream is one of my all-time favorite flavors, so of course I had to try making it in the Ninja Creami** and it did not disappoint. This ninja creami amarena cherry ice cream is sweet, fruity, and wonderfully creamy. For this recipe I used store-bought amarena cherries, but you can also make your own at home with a splash of Amaretto.
Whenever I spot amarena cherry ice cream on a menu, it’s always my go-to order. There’s something special about the combination of rich, creamy milk ice cream with that deep, fruity note from the cherries. But as always homemade tastes even better.
What are amarena cherries?
Did you know that amarena cherries originally come from the Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy? They are preserved in a special sugar syrup that intensifies their flavor and brings out their unique sweetness. That syrup is also part of what makes this ice cream so irresistibly good: don’t let a single drop go to waste!
With just a handful of ingredients, amarena cherries transform a simple base into a dessert that instantly brings a little taste of Italian summer right to your kitchen.

Make this amarena cherry ice cream your own
One of the best things about homemade ice cream is that you’re in full control of the flavor. Want a stronger cherry taste? Add more cherries or an extra spoonful of the amarena syrup. Prefer it a little less sweet? Simply adjust to your liking.
Where to buy amarena cherries
You should be able to find amarena cherries at most well-stocked grocery stores in the canned fruit aisle. They’re also widely available online if you can’t find them locally.
Since you won’t need the whole jar for this recipe, the leftover cherries are perfect for other desserts too. They’re especially delicious stirred into plain yogurt. Got other ideas for using them? Drop them in the comments — I’d love to hear!

Serving suggestions
This ninja creami amarena cherry ice cream is best enjoyed straight after processing, when it’s at its creamiest. For a little extra flair, try topping it with chocolate shavings or slivered almonds.
You can also combine the base recipe with chocolate for a delicious amarena chocolate ice cream variation — a whole new flavor with barely any extra effort.
